Apple?s iOS Still Dominates Mobile Web Browsing, Little Has Changed Over Six Months Of New Devices

chitikia-ios-androidUsers of Apple's iOS mobile operating system tend to be much heavier mobile web browsers than Android users, according to mobile ad network Chitika. That tendency hasn't changed very much at all during the past six months, despite the introduction of a wide variety of new Android hardware. While Apple has updated its iPad, introduced the iPad mini and the iPhone 5, there have been countless new Android phones, the Kindle Fire HD and new Nexus devices, but iOS still has about twice as much of web traffic consumption as Android-based browsers.

(AP) ? Antonio Smith picked up the ball J.J. Watt forced Titans running back Chris Johnson into fumbling, and the Texans' defensive end ran from the Houston 37 all the way to the end zone.

Smith walked around the end zone holding the ball up just in case he'd scored a touchdown.

Officials insisted the play had been whistled dead after Smith recovered the ball, so the Houston Texans forced five more turnovers and also had six sacks in beating the Tennessee Titans 24-10 on Sunday to clinch a second straight playoff berth.

"They blew the whistle," Texans coach Gary Kubiak said. "I think it could be a touchdown for us but unfortunately they blew a whistle, and it's not. There's nothing you can do about it. We did a great job of getting turnovers all day long."

Easy for Kubiak to be charitable after his Texans set a franchise-record for wins in a season by improving to 11-1 with their sixth straight victory. They also improved to 6-0 on the road ? the NFL's only unbeaten team away from home. And just for good measure, they also swept the Titans, the team they replaced in Houston, for only the second time as a franchise.

Fullback James Casey, who caught a 5-yard touchdown pass from Matt Schaub, said the feeling of clinching is a lot different this year than last season. The Texans are happy to know they're in the playoffs with more goals still ahead.

"We have a lot higher aspirations this year, but still we clinched the playoffs and that's hard to do," Casey said. "We're in it now. We have a shot. We have other things we want to do too. We want to clinch the division, we want to get home field advantage, so we have a lot of work to do and are already looking forward. We know we have a really big game against New England on Monday night, so we're excited about that."

Rookie Whitney Mercilus had two sacks, Watt had another sack giving him 15? and the Texans also batted down a handful of Jake Locker's passes.

"We kind of got after him and frustrated him a little bit, and that was our goal," Watt said. "The defense played great, and I think the defense did a heck of a job. I'm very proud of how we played."

Schaub also threw for 207 yards and two touchdowns, including a 54-yarder to Lestar Jean on the opening drive to put Houston ahead to stay. Arian Foster scored on a 2-yard TD run as the Texans led 21-3 at halftime to avoid any overtime drama after needing extra time to beat Jacksonville and Detroit in a span of five days in their last two games.

"Our defense really won the game for us," Schaub said. "They created all those turnovers and stops on fourth down. The game ball goes to the defense because we weren't holding up our end on offense."

For the Titans (4-8), the issues are growing quickly. They lost a second straight game and now have combined for 13 turnovers in back-to-back home losses. Locker fumbled twice and was intercepted three times. Right tackle David Stewart broke his right leg on the opening series, and left guard Steve Hutchinson hurt his right knee late in the first half.

"What could go wrong, would go wrong," Titans coach Mike Munchak said.

Tennessee outgained the Texans 354-332 in total offense with Locker throwing for 309 yards in the debut of offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains. He took over when Chris Palmer was fired a week ago. But when Locker settled down, his teammates took turns dropping balls or wiping out big plays with penalties.

"When he got going, then other people took their turns at making mistakes, so it was just sloppy, on the offensive side of the ball, at different times throughout the game," Munchak said.

NOTES: Andre Johnson, the AFC offensive player for November, had five catches for 56 yards after totaling 35 catches for 614 yards over the past month. ... Foster's streak of rushing for at least 90 yards a game ended at five. He ran for 38 yards on 14 carries. ... Stewart was taken to a hospital after being carted off the field. ... The Texans first swept Tennessee in 2004. Now they have won four of six in this AFC South rivalry.

Boy or girl, Kate's royal offspring likely to reign - eventually

The centuries-old tradition that gave male children precedence in succession to the British throne has been scrapped, with a new gender-equal law coming soon.

Today's announcement that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge ??also known as Prince William and Princess Kate???are expecting a baby was met with a right royal hue and cry by the British press.

Kate, formerly Kate Middleton, is currently in hospital being treated for morning sickness. Verifiable facts are thin on the ground, but one thing is known for sure: regardless of the sex of the child, he or she is likely to reign ??eventually.

Primogeniture, the rule that male children take precedence in succession to the throne, has been scrapped. The centuries-old tradition was ended last year at a meeting of the Commonwealth of Nations, a supra-national group of countries mostly consisting of former parts of the British Empire.

The laws to do this haven't even been tabled yet, though they may take on a new urgency given the announcement.

?A de facto change has already been introduced pending the legal changes that now need to be made,? said deputy prime minister Nick Clegg, speaking to the British Parliament in November.

Then again, perhaps not that much urgency given it will be a long time before this child basks in the regal glory of coronation anthem,?Handel's Zadok the Priest: Queen Elizabeth II shows no signs of quitting the throne at all.

During the 1990s, speculation was rife that she would stand aside to let her eldest son Prince Charles become king.?It didn't happen, and is rarely spoken about today.

At this point you may be thinking this is all uncannily like reading tea leaves, and, indeed it is. The monarchy doesn't make much in the way of planning announcements and the speculative stories based on sources "close to" various royals are a stock-in-trade of the British press, particularly, though by no means exclusively, the tabloids.

Getting back to the facts, what we know is that Prince Charles, now 64, is heir apparent to the throne, followed by his eldest son William, aged 30. After him will be the new child and everyone else in line to the throne, such as William's brother Prince Harry (Henry), (currently third-in-line) and uncle, Prince Andrew, (currently fourth-in-line) get bumped one place.

It is unclear whether Queen Elizabeth's second child, Princess Anne, 62, will enjoy a move up due to the end to primogeniture, or languish tenth in line, soon to be eleventh.

The announcement that the Duke and Duchess were expecting was made in a press release and, in a first for royal social media,?a rather terse, tweet. (Not a bad day for hierarchy fans on Twitter: the Pope, who is head of state of the world's smallest country, the Vatican City State,?joined the social network).

Not everyone is pleased by the news of the royal pregnancy. An?online poll?undertaken by the republican-leaning Guardian newspaper is currently giving a 64 percent thumbs down to the question: "Do you share David Cameron's delight at news the Duchess of Cambridge is pregnant?" Goodness.

The newspaper also published a?snarky comment piece?lightning fast.

(This writer's own Facebook feed has cleaved ??unsurprisingly, given I'm in Ireland???with about a third excitedly congratulating the couple they will never meet and a further third unreasonably hot under the collar about the potential expansion of the royal line. The final third are, mercifully, silent on the issue.)

On which note, I shall resume my own dignified silence.

Ariz. police searching for child missing from cancer ward

The welfare of a missing 11-year-old leukemia patient who was taken from a Phoenix hospital by her mother the day before she was scheduled to be discharged is the prime concern for authorities, who fear a catheter in the girl's heart could become infected and endanger her life.

The patient, who is known as Emily, recently battled an infection and had her right arm amputated. Surveillance video captured Emily, a young boy, and Emily's mother, who police are only identifying as Norma, walking out of Phoenix Children's Hospital at 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

"In this particular case, we have again an 11-year-old girl who can't really decide for herself," said Sgt. Steve Martos of the Phoenix Police Department. "Her parents are now removing her from the hospital and putting her in danger by not providing that last bit of medical attention that she needs."

The search has been difficult for officers, Martos said, since Emily and her family are from Mexico and have no locally listed records in Arizona.

A nurse supervisor called 911 when she realized Emily was missing and described how she was able to avoid detection.

"She was wearing a wig, which is not unusual , a lot of our cancer patients wear wigs," the supervisor said. "She wasn't wearing a wig when she went into the bathroom though and then she was wearing a wig when she came out and she was actually covering her right arm, the amputated arm."

Police said Norma removed Emily's IV before walking her out of the hospital in street clothes.

The family left the hospital in a black van and have not been seen since.

It's not clear how long Emily had been a patient at the hospital or what may have prompted her mother to take her before she was scheduled to be discharged.

Jets backup QB Tebow, Cards WR Roberts inactive

(AP) ? New York Jets backup quarterback Tim Tebow was not active for the team's game against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday because of a rib injury.

Tebow has two broken ribs, suffered at Seattle on Nov. 11, and was limited in practice all week. Third-stringer Greg McElroy was active for the first time in his two-year NFL career and was backing up starter Mark Sanchez. Tebow was active Thanksgiving night against New England, but did not play, with coach Rex Ryan saying he would see action only in "an emergency."

Tebow has been a limited participant in the offense, averaging just seven snaps a game after being expected to be an integral part.

Also out for the Jets were wide receiver Clyde Gates, cornerback Aaron Berry, linebacker Ricky Sapp, defensive tackle Damon Harrison, offensive lineman Caleb Schlauderaff and tight end Hayden Smith.

Cardinals wide receiver Andre Roberts, the team's second-leading receiver with 50 catches and five touchdown receptions, was out with an ankle injury. He was replaced in the starting offense by rookie Michael Floyd.

Defensive end Calais Campbell was sidelined with a calf injury for the third straight game. He hoped to return this week, but David Carter filled in for him on the starting defensive line.

Starting quarterback Kevin Kolb is out again for the sixth straight game, as expected, with a rib injury. Rookie Ryan Lindley was starting for the second straight game. Lindley threw four interceptions, including two returned for touchdowns by Janoris Jenkins, in Arizona's 31-17 loss to St. Louis last week.

Tight end Todd Heap (knee) was also out for the Cardinals, and hasn't played since the second week of the season. Also inactive for the Cardinals were: running back Alfonso Smith, guard Senio Kelemente and tackle Pat McQuistan.

Man charged in barista death linked to 7 killings

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) ? A man charged in the death of an Alaska barista was found dead in his jail cell Sunday, and authorities announced hours later that investigators have linked him in recent months to seven other possible slayings in three other states.

Israel Keyes died of an apparent suicide, U.S. Attorney Karen Loeffler said at a hastily assembled news conference that also included the FBI and Anchorage police

Keyes was facing a March trial in Anchorage federal court for the murder of 18-year-old Samantha Koenig, who was abducted from a coffee kiosk in the city last February. He was later arrested in Texas after using the victim's debit card.

Keyes confessed to killing Koenig, as well as killing Bill and Lorraine Currier of Essex, Vt., Anchorage police chief Mark Mew told reporters.

The bodies of the Curriers have never been found. They were last seen leaving their jobs on June 8, 2011. Co-workers reported them missing the next day.

Keyes, 34, also indicated he killed four others in Washington state and one person in New York state, but didn't give the victims' names, authorities said.

The FBI contends Keyes killed Koenig less than a day after she was kidnapped. Her body was recovered April 2 from an ice-covered lake north of Anchorage.

Koenig's disappearance gripped the city for weeks.

A surveillance camera showed an apparently armed man in a hooded sweat shirt leading Koenig away from the coffee stand. Koenig's friends and relatives established a reward fund and plastered the city with fliers with her photo in hopes of finding the young woman alive.

Prosecutors said Keyes stole the debit card from a vehicle she shared that was parked near her home, obtained the personal identification number and scratched the number into the card.

After killing Koenig, Keyes used her phone to send text messages to conceal the abduction, according to prosecutors. He flew to Texas and returned Feb. 17 to Anchorage, where he sent another text message demanding ransom and directing it to the account connected to the stolen debit card, according to prosecutors.

Keyes made withdrawals from automated teller machines in Alaska, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas before his arrest in Texas, according to prosecutors. He was charged with kidnapping resulting in Koenig's death.

Koenig's family said there was no apparent previous connection between the teen and the suspect. Reached by phone Sunday, Koenig's father, James Koenig declined to comment on Keyes' death.

In Vermont, the U.S. Attorney's Office said in a statement Sunday that they have been working with investigators in Alaska since April on the Currier case.

Investigators have determined that the couple's home was entered forcibly, and that there was evidence of a possible struggle.

Their car was stolen and was recovered several days after their disappearance at an apartment complex about three-quarters of a mile away from their home.

Marilyn Chates, Bill Currier's mother, told The Associated Press that police contacted her some time ago to tell her about Keyes' confession and to tell her that they believed the couple's killing was random.

Certificates of presumed death were issued over the summer and a memorial service was held in late summer, she said.

Vermont authorities called Chates Sunday to tell her of Keyes' suicide.

"After some thinking, our family has been saved the long road ahead ? trials, possible plea agreements and possible appeals ? and perhaps this was the best thing that could have happened," she said from her home in Florida Sunday evening.

Keyes was thorough and methodical in disposing victims, authorities said Sunday. Only Koenig's body has been recovered.

He didn't have a clear pattern in victims, who ranged widely in age, authorities said. Money appeared to be just a partial motive.

Authorities say they may never know the full extent of Keyes' crimes because he parsed out only a little information at a time, withholding names and locations of most of his victims.

There may be victims in other states, besides the four states noted by Keyes, FBI Special Agent in Charge Mary Rook said.

Keyes also confessed to bank robberies in New York state and Texas.

Authorities wouldn't say how Keyes killed himself, only that he was alone in his cell. An autopsy will be conducted.

Keyes could have faced the death penalty in the Koenig case.
